Administration of Suppositories

Course Aims

To provide delegates with the training, skills and knowledge to be able to administer suppositories in the right manner and understand why they are doing so.

Suitable For

Any adult care worker who may need to provide a person in their care with medication by this route.

Course Length

2 hours

Pre-requisite

Generally none, although delegates should be employed in an environment where the need for training in this skill is appropriate.

Certification

Delegates will receive a Norvic certificate of attendance.

Course Venue

Closed courses are held at our venues in Norwich and Cambridge or alternatively, courses can be arranged at clients' own site anywhere in the UK (subject to suitability).

  • Examples of types of drugs which may be administered by the rectal route
  • Delegates will demonstrate the administration of rectal medication (on a simulated patient

  • Be aware of communication, safeguarding & moving and handling issues
  • Understand the reasons why suppositories may be prescribed
  • Give examples of types of drugs which may be administered by the rectal route
  • Demonstrate the administration of rectal medication (on a simulated patient)
