Emergency Medical Technician Requalification
Course Aims
To update and requalify in the knowledge and skills required to deal with medical and trauma emergencies beyond the scope of basic first aid.
Suitable For
Any person already holding an Emergency Medical Technician qualification which is nearing its expiry.
Course Length
3 days (9am - 5pm and 6:30pm - 8 pm on day 1 for vehicle extrication exercise).
Pre-requisite
Previous EMT qualification or equivalent. Required pre-course study: diabetes, Glasgow Coma Scale, communicating with patients, chest diseases, 6 stages or pre-hospital care, universal precautions, anaphylaxis, epilepsy and convulsions, BLS- paediatric and during pregnancy, code of conduct, presenting medical information, cerebrovascular accident.This study is based on the IHCD Ambulance Service Basic training manual.
Certification
Successful candidates will be awarded:
An EMT certificate which is valid for 1 year
And AED certificate which is valid for 1 year.
Course Venue
Closed courses are held at our training venues throughour East Anglia or alternatively, courses can be arranged at your own site anywhere in the UK (subject to suitability).
Syllabus
• Oro-pharyngeal airway • Oral suction • Pulse oximetry and manual blood pressure • Pain relief and Entonox administration • Head, chest and abdominal trauma heart conditions • Patient examination and assessment • Laryngeal Mask Airway • Primary survey and interventions • Oxygen administration (therapy and I.P.P.V.) • Advisory external defibrillation • Crash helmet removal • Use of spinal board (long board) • Knowledge and skills assessments (carried out by external assessors who are state registered ambulance professionals).
