Care Certificate
As you know this month the Care Certificate replaced both the Common Induction Standards (CIS) and National Minimum Training Standards (NMTS). This new qualification becomes mandatory at the beginning of April 2015, and from this date all new care workers must have completed this qualification within 12 weeks of starting their new role.
The Care Certificate was developed following the Francis enquiry at which time Camilla Cavendish was asked by the secretary of state to review and make recommendations on: Recruitment, Learning and Development, Management and Support of healthcare assistants to ensure the workforce provides compassionate care.
Her findings were presented in the Cavendish Review which reported that preparation of Health Care Assistants and Clinical Social Workers for their roles within care settings was inconsistent. She recommended the development of:- A Certificate of Fundamental Care, “The Care Certificate”.
The Care Certificate will be a requirement across England and will apply to Health Care Assistants, Clinical Social Workers, those providing support to clinical roles in the NHS who have direct contact with patients and all care workers in Residential, Nursing and Domiciliary Care
The Care Certificate sets out the learning outcomes, competencies and standards of behaviour expected from all Health professionals ensuring they comply with the “6 C’s”
